Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that provides simple, decent and affordable housing. How is this possible? With the help of volunteer labor, like that of a few our sisters here at Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Mu chapter. A group of 5 pledge sisters in the junior pledge class got together and decided to celebrate spring break in an effective and meaningful way. There girls took a trip to Florida and together they worked in the community, building and painting houses. When I asked junior Brittany Brechbhul why she wanted to go on Habitat instead of go somewhere to relax she replied, “I just thought it would be a new, meaningful experience. It’s a great opportunity to help a community in need!” Brechbhul described their days as long, but still a lot of fun. The women would work for about 6 to 8 hours a day in the hot sun but Brittany said they would switch up the job responsibilities to give everyone an opportunity to try it all.
“The most memorable part of the trip I would have to say was the ground breaking ceremony. We actually got to see the families we were building the houses for- we got to see where all of our hard work was going to, the people we so thankful!” says Brechbhul. These Alpha Chi women have set a strong example for the women of the Alpha Mu chapter, and we look forward to more participation in events like Habitat.
