Alpha Chi Omega won Best Overall Performance at the 2009 IU Sing Competition. IU Sing is a musical extravaganza held at the IU auditorium. It is produced by the IU Student Foundation in efforts to raise money for student scholarships and increase campus involvement. In addition to winning first place, Alpha Chi also won awards for Outstanding Choreography and Best Costumes out of 3000 participants.
Two juniors in Alpha Chi, emily Renfro and Hayley Samperi, were our song leaders along with the song leaders from the two fraternities we were paired with for the event, Delta Chi and Theta Chi. The Wizard of Oz was the theme of their act. It focused on the idea of Dorothy going to Hollywood to fulfill her dream of becoming a successful star and running
into ‘washed up’ celebrities (Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Night at the Roxbury guys) along the way, and later changing her mind that Hollywood was too much for her and there was ‘no place like home’.
Our new 2009 pledge class consisted of all the young women that made Alpha Chi’s involvement possible. It is an opportunity for the girls to get to know one another better by spending time rehearsing at the chapter and socializing together in a fun way. Within the new pledge class there were many talented singers, experienced dancers and fabulous actors that worked together to win the gold! Alpha Chi is extremely proud of our song leaders and participants, and the
title of 2009 IU Sing Champions.
