Philanthropy

The women of Alpha Chi Omega's Alpha Mu chapter recognize the
importance of community service and giving.  We are constantly
involved with the activities of local nonprofit organizations and
philanthropy events because we feel that our service is just one way
in which we can give back to the community that has given us so much.

Our chapter also focuses on raising money for the Middle Way House, a
local domestic violence and rape crisis center, and The Rise, a
transitional housing facility for battered women and their children.
We have a fall Philanthropy event, Shedding the Light On Domestic
Violence, that we have done for two years now.  The AXO Domestic
Violence Awareness Luminary Project allows us to inform the community
about domestic violence and its presence in our local community.  For
this project we light luminaries in front of all the Greek houses to
symbolize our community's dedication to "shedding light" on the issue
of domestic abuse, an issue that affects millions of women worldwide.

This upcoming year we will be starting a new philanthropy event called the AXOpen, which will be a tennis tournament again benefitting the Middle Way House. The details regarding this event are still in the works but it plans to take place in the spring and will be a great way to again reach out to the community for a great cause.

Apart from hosting our own philanthropy events we strongly encourage
our members to participate n the philanthropy events of other Greek
houses as well as any community service in the local area.  The
members of Alpha Chi Omega are extremely proud of our involvement in
our community.   We believe that community involvement is the key to
citizenship.  Whether we are hosting a special event aimed at raising
money to improve the services offered by organizations like Middle Way
House, helping other chapters with their philanthropy events, or
volunteering at a local nonprofit, we want our community to know that
they can count on us to give back.  We don't just take pride in being
members of Alpha Chi Omega, but we also take pride in being members of
the community and lending the community a helping hand.
